Eos is the Science Fiction and Fantasy imprint of HarperCollins US arm. (Clicking on the Eos banner above wil take you directly to their site). You'll notice that this month's fantasy book of the month is Sara Douglass' SERPENT'S BRIDE - this was also published by Voyager (Harper Collins UK's Science Fiction and Fantasy imprint) but I chose the US version, which they very kindly airmailed me, because of the far superior cover by Steve Stone and, because for some reason, the UK office didn't send me their version! Generally speaking, the US imprint is better than the UK, who have to play catch up, I'm afraid. I've said before that VOYAGER is the number one SF&F imprint in the UK, and that remains so for me. However, their US colleagues have the edge on web presence, with "Search Inside" widgets for most of their titles; secondly, their cover art is outstanding; and thirdly, because the production is better. Hardcover EOS books are two-tone and the front cover bears the initials of the author - a very nice touch, and one that makes quite a difference in my humble opinion.

There's a special section for teens, where you can read about and review upcoming titles in various genres, and you can sign up for a number of excellent newsletters that will keep you up to date with what's already published and coming soon. Harper Collins US is one of the best publisher's sites I've ever come across in my extensive travels around the web, and the focus is spot on and the content more than just interesting. Full marks for a thoroughly absorbing and fascinating site with lots of links to follow down a huge variety of paths.

Many EOS books find their way into the Voyager lists, and vice versa. But while Harper Collins is a global phenomenon, the US imprint looks good and treats each title as something special. Time for a web makeover, Voyager! My visit this morning had lots of missing links, and things not working properly, like error messages. That said, Voyager isn't a bad site, it's just the Americans seem to put a lot more resource into their web presence, and it shows

Gateway is published by Paul Edmund Norman on the first day of each month. Hosting is by Flying Porcupine at www.flyingporcupine.com - and web design by Gateway. Submitting to Gateway: Basically, all you need do is e-mail it along and I'll consider it - it can be any length, if it's very long I'll serialise it, if it's medium-length I'll put it in as a novella, if it's a short story or a feature article it will go in as it comes. Payment is zero, I'm afraid, as I don't make any money from Gateway, I do it all for fun!
